Translating and rewriting Ferrante’s<i>My Brilliant Friend</i>at the National Theatre

چکیده

This article interrogates the translation strategies involved when transposing Elena Ferrante’s Neapolitan novels into a play – first produced in UK. My Brilliant Friend, adapted by April De Angelis and directed Melly Still, was based on of Ann Goldstein staged at National Theatre (London) 2019/2020 following its success Rose Theatre, Kingston 2017. In investigating ‘making’ play, particularly through series interviews with Angelis, examines how works have been altered to suit taste Anglophone audiences what message is sending about way which use non-standard languages southern Italian drama translated British stages. The calls for stronger collaboration between theatre practitioners, scholars foster greater cross-cultural understanding help raise general low status theatre.
